I am privileged to be part of this conversation among leading Indian management scholars on the important topic of indigenous Indian management. Let me share my perspective on indigenizing management research and practice in my country, the Philippines. I hope that management scholars from our two countries can pursue sustained conversations on this topic for the mutual benefit of our management systems and, ultimately, the flourishing of our business and cultural landscapes. The title of my discussion, makataong pamamahala, or person-centered management, is anchored on a core value in Philippine culture, which is the importance of the human person. Decolonizing Philippine management thinking and practice must be centered on this core value. I will discuss why such an effort is extremely important for our leading management thinkers and practitioners to pursue today. I will also discuss some features of our cultural mindset relevant to management research and practice. Finally, I will outline key institutional mechanisms that we have to engage to advance the indigenization project.en_US
