Abstract: IIM-Calcutta will set up a 3.5 lakh sq ft modern hostel complex with a capacity of nearly 1,000 students to replace the old facilities on its campus in Joka. To be constructed over two years, the five-star rated green building, designed by celebrated architect Hafeez Contractor, will cost Rs 246 crore. IIM-Calcutta officials said the proposed hostel, service building and substation building will be a G+9 storied facility consisting of 726 rooms with common washrooms and 200 rooms with attached washrooms. IIM-Calcutta hostel manager Anil Srivastava acknowledged infrastructure at the other IIMs that have come up later were better than IIM-Calcutta and that the upgrade in the hostel infrastructure was long overdue. “IIM-Calcutta has a very beautiful campus with sprawling water bodies and lots of greenery. In terms of academic excellence, it is right there at the top. Once the hostels are upgraded, we will have infrastructure that can match any other institution,” he said.
