dc.description.abstract | Social Entrepreneurs Meera and Muzzaffar Ali have done phenomenal work for social upliftment and have designed clothes with the idea of not only providing a vocation in Kotwara but also to upgrade the craft of chikan and zardozi in Lucknow and its vicinity. Their couture label 'Kotwara' stands as an ambassador of Kotwara's weaving traditions like chikan, dhurie and zardozi. Kotwara uses craft design as an important tool of development and is a long-term community development and empowerment scheme directly benefiting about 600 people in Kotwara and 300 in Lucknow. Dwar Pe Rozi, a movement started by Ali's caters to empowering and educating women of the Kotwara region, by training them the art of craft, embroidery, carpet weaving etc. Today the Ali's are instrumental in spearheading a movement in upgrading the arts, craft and culture of this fabled city in the name of Kotwara. | en_US |
