Abstract: | This case illustrates how a digital social innovation that involved the building of an ICT based ecosystem in a stage-wise manner brought about a positive change in the lives of small holder farmers in India, in the regions of Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Agrevolution’s (or Dehaat’s) ecosystem consisted of farmers, local microentrepreneurs, node level employees, scientific officers, among others that was interwoven using a digital platform that provided a one stop-shop solution for the different problems faced by the farmers. Students would get to learn how an information technology based ecosystem emerges in a resource constrained environment and the concept of strategic sweets spots for technology intervention that enables maximum leverage from technology. Considering that the poverty of small holder farmers and the resource constraints that they face are issues faced by farmers in many nations; this case has global scope and relevance. |
