Abstract: Diversification is the most challenging product-market strategy involving an intricate assessment of trends and contingencies and then driving the organization towards business needs and long-run objectives. This case presents the story of Bharat Petroeleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) that embarked on a journey of diversification in order to maintain its competitive edge. It depicts BPCL’s path to diversification and the process it followed to tackle unique problems arising out of fierce competition in the oil and gas industry of India.
