dc.description.abstractA team of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM)-Lucknow gave its final presentation on Varanasi’s district development plan (DDP) before the department for promotion of industry and internal trade (DPIIT) of the Union ministry of commerce of through video-conferencing on Tuesday. Leading the team, Dr Chandra Mohan Mishra said, “All the areas in which employment and income can be increased further had been elaborated in the final presentation by suggesting the nature of the intervention required in different sectors, including silk products, glass beads, tourism, agriculture and horticulture, fisheries, livestock and dairy, handicrafts, carving on wood and stone and metal repoussé.” Regarding the DDP, Mishra told TOI that in a bid to accelerate the economic growth of the districts, the Central government has initiated DDP on pilot basis in Visakhapatnam, Muzaffarpur, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Sirmaur and Varanasi.en_US
