Abstract: This essay explores the changing nature of doctoral programmes at premier Indian management institutions. We share a reflexive account of the lived experiences of Indian doctoral students as they navigate widespread changes that arise from new Indian neoliberal aspirations to emerge as global thought leaders. The resulting emphasis on global performance metrics as well as our position as disadvantaged subjects seeking entry into the Eurocentric knowledge economy creates particular vulnerabilities for the doctoral student. We outline coping strategies and their implications and conclude with an alternative agenda for scholars.
